Gibson found himself trailing, 1-0 after Manny Machado provided a sacrifice fly to score Trent Grisham who had doubled. Philadelphia had made a roster move earlier in the day with the activation of Hoskins and the demotion of Alec Bohm to Triple-A. The move immediately paid dividends with Hoskins hitting not one, but two homers.

Hoskins launched homer one to dead center field to get things seven at 1-1 Odubel Herrera (4 for 5, 3 RBI) stepped up with a two-run single to push it to 3-1. It then went back to a home run derby with Hoskins (2 for 3, a walk, and a pair of runs knocked in) connected for his second of the day and Herrera went yard making it a 5-1 game. JT Realmuto joined the homer brigade with a two-run shot that pushed it to a 7-1 game.

Hector Neris, who had been outstanding the last month, surrendered a pinch-hit three-run double from Austin Nola..(the other Nola) that provided the final 7-4 score. Hoskins, despite being on the inactive list, leads the Phils with 26 dingers and 70 knocked in.

The Phillies get a big win and series victory. They improve to 62-61 and remain solidly in second place, with the loss the Padres have dropped from a playoff spot and have lost 9 of their last 11.
