Playoff hockey still might be a possibility for Flyers fans. Although things with the Flyers are well documented as a disaster and they will not be a playoff team in 2021-22. That doesn’t mean that Flyers fans won’t have Playoff Hockey this May. The Flyers American Hockey League Affiliate Leigh Valley Phantoms find themselves in a race to capture the final playoff spot within their division.
The AHL does things a little bit differently than the NHL. For example, the Phantoms play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, and with six games remaining in their season, the Phantoms are four points out of the final playoff spot. The team the Phantoms are chasing the Bridgeport Islanders (New York Islanders) currently hold that spot but only have two games remaining, so the Phantoms have eight points in hand over the Islanders.
The Atlantic Division will send six teams into the Calder Cup playoffs and the Phantoms have a legit shot at one of those spots. This season has had its ups and downs for the Phantoms as well as the Flyers. The Phantoms started the season dreadfully 0-7-2 in their first nine games. To their credit and the credit of the coaching staff, the Phantoms have righted the ship and find themselves in the thick of the playoff push
So, if you’re a die-hard Flyers fan and you are feeling the sting of a lost season. Look no further than Allentown and check out the Phantoms and support the Flyers of the future. Playoff Hockey may still be a possibility for Flyers Fans.
