The Redwoods (2-4) played the Atlas Lacrosse Club (4-2) in the early game Saturday night from Fairfield, CT.
The Redwoods got off to a fast start leading Atlas 5-1 after one, but a strong second quarter turned the tables with Atlas going to the half up 9-6. Atlas pushed their lead to 11-6 before the Redwoods made a strong charge in the fourth finally overtaking Atlas for good on a two point Myles Jones goal with just 3:29 left. The Redwoods held on for the 16-15 win.
To The Game:
The Redwoods opened the scoring when Jules Heningburg scored at 1:02, followed by Charlie Bertrand converting a Patrick Harbeson pass at 3:14.
Ryder Garnsey scored the next two. His first made the score 3-0 scoring at 8:01, followed by a Rob Pannell feed being converted just 0:20 seconds later.
Kavanagh made the score 5-0, but was finally answered back by Daniel Bucaro for Atlas at 10:40.
After one quarter, Redwoods 5 Atlas 1.
Second Quarter:
Bryan Costabile started the Atlas comeback firing a shot past Jack Kelly at 2:47, followed by Eric Law converting a Jeff Teat pass at 5:00.
Chris Gray scored off a Daniel Bucaro pass at 6:08 to bring the game within one, but Myles Jones stopped the run off a Rob Pannell feed at 6:59.
Atlas finished the half on another run. Cade van Raaphorst scored a two point goal to tie the game at 8:24, followed by Craig Chick converting a Chris Gray pass just 0:15 seconds later. Daniel Bucaro scored at 10:13, followed by Bryan Costabile’s second of the game with just 0:05 seconds left.
At the half, Atlas 9 Redwoods 6.

Third Quarter:
Costabile opened the second half with his third goal of the night at 0:47 seconds, followed by Chris Gray scoring his second of the game to open up a five goal lead.
The Redwoods came back with Sergio Perkovic scoring 2 goals worth three points. His first was at 2:39, followed by a two point power play goal off a Myles Jones feed at 3:13.
Jeff Teat scored for Atlas off a Chris Gray feed at 10:05.
After three quarters, Atlas 12 Redwoods 9.
Fourth Quarter:
Charlie Bertrand opened the fourth quarter scoring for the Redwoods at 0:32 seconds, but was answered by John Crawley converting a Bryan Costabile pass at 2:24. Rob Pannell scores for the Redwoods at 4:34, then Eddy Glazener ties it up scoring a two pointer off a Nakeie Montgomery pass at 5:51.
Jeff Teat gives Atlas the lead once again scoring at 6:57, but Charlie Bertrand’s third of the game tied it up again at 7:39. Myles Jones puts a bit of distance between the Redwoods and Atlas scoring a two point goal at 8:31 off a Sergio Perkovic pass.
Dox Aitken brought Atlas within one goal at 8:49, but that would be all for the scoring in this game.
Final score, Redwoods 16 Atlas 15.

Gary Groob has been involved with Lacrosse for the majority of his life, whether playing, coaching, or covering the sport for the media.
An avid fan, with a real drive about helping to “grow the game”, Gary became part of podcasts about the game in 2010. Through the podcasts, Mr. Groob was given an opportunity to write about lacrosse, and the rest as they say, is history.
Through many miles (flying and driving) Gary has made inroads with the National Lacrosse League, Major Series Lacrosse League, the Ontario Lacrosse Association, as well as the Arena Lacrosse League, covering the leagues, their teams, and players, working for, and in concert with all of them.
In the year 2020, Mr. Groob was made the media person for the Arena Lacrosse League, voted onto the board of directors of the Brampton Excelsiors Lacrosse Club, as well as being made administrator of the Lacrosse page “Global Lacrosse” with a membership of 9000 members in over 90 Countries. Gary was also made an administrator of Lacrosse History Past Present and Future in 2022.
Mr. Groob co-hosts a weekly Lacrosse show on Spanglish Sports World, and ZingoTV channel 250, as well as writes a weekly lacrosse column for La Portada Canada News (both in print, and online).
Gary also hosts a Lacrosse talk show and podcast for The Edge of Philly Sports Network, seen live Sunday nights at 9pm (ET), and archived on the Edge of Philly YouTube page, as well as Spotify.
Mr. Groob’s other sports interests include Hockey, Football, Boxing, Wrestling, and Baseball, competing competitively in Boxing and Wrestling for many years.
