Another weekend another top 10 finish. Picking the actual winner of a golf tournament remains one of the most difficult things to do in sports. One bad hole, one mental lapse and poof its all over. While we have been wildly consistent we have yet to find the winners circle.
We barely, if ever, take a favorite. We look for value and opportunity. This adds another layer of difficulty. This weekend we get it done. The tour heads to Michigan for July 4th Weekend at the Detroit Golf Club. It’s a lighter field this weekend so tossing out the obvious favorite Bryson DeChambeau we look were talent and opportunity meet risk.
Winner:
Viktor Hovland ( 20-1 ) A literal unknown to most who do not follow the sport and even some who do. But Hovland is playing some of the best golf in the world this year. His short game has been improving and my thoughts are this is the week we see him in contention on the final 9 holes Sunday.
Long Shot:
Doc Redman ( 45-1 ) Redman played his best golf last year at this tournament finishing 2nd. If you are a gold nerd stat type he has gained 17 strokes from tee to green in is last 7 rounds. That is an impressive stat better than a few top 5 players in the world.
