Eduardo Curros – Field Correspondent for All Lacrosse All The Time

It is week 18 of the National Lacrosse League and the playoff picture is starting to take shape. The San Diego Seals (11-4) had a playoff berth on the line with a win over the Las Vegas Desert Dogs (4-10).

The goalie match-up had Landon Kells in net for Las Vegas facing Chris Origlieri in the Seals net.

First Quarter:

Rob Hellyer opened the scoring for the Desert Dogs with a pair of quick goals.  The first was from a shot from the outside off a Dylan Watson pass at 1:29, followed by converting a Marshall King feed at 2:49.  Casey Jackson then scored on the power-play from the top of the crease off a Zack Greer pass at 4:45 to take a 3-0 lead in a quiet Pechanga Arena.

Tre LeClaire finally got San Diego on the board converting an Austin Staats pass at 9:29, but was answered quickly by Zack Greer blasting a Jack Hannah pass on the power-play at 12:21.  Greer would score again with just 0:06 seconds left in the quarter off a Hellyer feed to give Vegas a four goal lead.

After one quarter, Las Vegas 5 San Diego 1.

Second Quarter:

San Diego finally got on track scoring three goals.  Dane Dobbie scored from the top of the crease off a Wes Berg pass at 1:29.  The Seals’ Jacob Dunbar then scored two goals 1:02 apart.  His first was on the power-play off an Austin Staats feed at 11:39, followed by a blast off a Wes Berg pass at 12:41.

Landon Kells sent a beautiful long lead pass to Connor Krist who caught the top corner over Origlieri’s shoulder at 13:13 for the score.

At the half, Las Vegas 6 San Diego 4.

Third Quarter:

Wes Berg got things started quickly for the Seals, scoring on the power-play at just 0:36 seconds, but the Desert Dogs answered immediately when Marshal King finished a Zack Greer pass with a kow to high blast at 2:02.

San Diego came back with two goals to tie the game.  First was Austin Staats with his first of the evening off a Wes Berg pass at 5:50, followed by Tre LeClaire also converting a Wes Berg pass at 6:35.

Jack Hannah gave the Desert Dogs the lead once more when he converted a Rob Hellyer feed at 14:17.

After three quarters, Las Vegas 8 San Diego 7.

Fourth Quarter:

Wes Berg started the fourth quarter scoring, tying the game once more for the Seals off a Jacob Dunbar pass at 2:04, then Dan Dobbie gave San Diego their first lead of the night on the power-play scoring from in front off a Wes Berg pass at 6:11.

Dylan Watson then tied the game for Las Vegas off a Casey Jackson feed at 7:31.  Both teams went end to end for the rest of the quarter with no success.  Both goalies were spectacular down the stretch making big save after big save.

After regulation, San Diego 9 Las Vegas 9.

Overtime:

In overtime, after another big save, Chris Origlieri sent a long lead pass to a streaking Tre LeClaire, who made no mistake at 0:54 seconds, thus clinching a playoff spot for the Seals.

Final score, San Diego 10 Las Vegas 9.
