Shake Up in Big East

Shake up in Big East. The #19 Creighton Blue Jays (16-5) defended the home turf with an 86-70 blowout over the #5 Villanova Wildcats. This suddenly makes the East Conference a dog eat dog world. Creighton has patiently waited for Marcus Zegarowski to return to good health, various maladies have slowed him for 11 months.

In the Wildcats world, he picked a damn bad time too well and was the dominant force in this one.

“It takes time to get your sea legs back,” Creighton coach Greg McDermott said. “He’s done an unbelievable job managing some of the injury issues he’s had this year. I’ve seen him gradually get where he could be, and today was the pinnacle of a lot of hard work he’s put in to get back.”

Banging 25 points, Zegarowski was clearly the difference in this one.

Rest assured, it was not a one man show and Mitch Bullock nailed 17 points in the first half en route to a 20 point game.
Christian Bishop added another 16 points to assist in the Blue Jays 6th win in their last seven games and their first victory over a Top 5 team since February of 2018.

Ironically, that was a defeat of, all teams, Villanova. For the Wildcats, it was their biggest since a 25 point dismantling at the hands of Ohio State back in November of 2019. Villanova was led by Justin Moore who poured in 21 and Jermaine Samuels who added 16.
