Shamrocks Best Adanacs To Stay Undefeated

The Victoria Shamrocks visited the Palace on Poirier Saturday night to battle with the Coquitlam Adanacs for the second time this season. The Shamrocks survived an attempt the night before by New Westminster to blemish their perfect record, overcoming a 10-9 deficit in the third period to win 15-13. Meanwhile, Coquitlam was coming off an 8-8 tie game with Langley on Wednesday in which they squandered a 7-3 lead. Mathieu Gautier came up big for Victoria, his four third period goals helping keep the Shamrocks undefeated with a 12-8 win. They improve to 11-0 with the win, and currently hold a 5-1/2 game lead on the second place Maple Ridge Burrards. Coquitlam falls to 4-7-1 with the loss, dropping outside the playoff cut line into 5th place.

Shamrocks limit Coquitlam’s runs to stay ahead

Adam Noakes got Coquitlam started off first just 1:18 into the game. Unfortunately it would be the Adanacs’ only lead of the game, as Victoria went on a three-goal run and never gave the lead back. Max Wilson (4:31), Marshal King (10:57), and Tom Vaesen (14:10) put the Shamrocks up 3-1. Goals from Clark Walter (16:26 power play) and Jacob Saunders (17:28) pulled Coquitlam even at 3-3 after one period.

Patrick Dodds (2:47) and Trent DiCicco (4:42) joined the fun and restored a two-goal edge for Victoria. Within 50 seconds, Chase McIntyre (5:04) and Jordan Roberts (5:32) tied the game for the Adanacs. However, goals from Denton McDonald (10:26) and Casey Wilson (15:39) had the Shamrocks up 7-5 heading into the third period.

Gautier goes off in the third period

Mathieu Gautier went back-to-back (3:05; 9:21) to extend the four-goal run and the Shamrocks’ lead to 9-5. Matthew Delmonico broke the run with a power play goal at 12:58. But Gautier then tacked on two more goals (15:35 power play; 16:49). A second goal from Dodds (17:20) suddenly saw the Adanacs doubled up, 12-6. McIntyre (19:12) and Noakes (19:32) scored for Coquitlam in the final minute, but the Shamrocks remain undefeated on the season.

Gautier was named 1st Star of the Game for Victoria, and Shamrocks goaltender Chris Origlieri (34 saves) earned 3rd Star honors. Noakes (2g, 2a) received 2nd Star of the Game for the Adanacs. Victoria outshot Coquitlam 48-42 for the game, and won 15 of 21 draws at the dot. Coquitlam plays their third game of the week Sunday at Maple Ridge, then hosts Langley next Saturday in Week 8. Victoria hosts Nanaimo Wednesday and Burnaby Friday in Week 8, with two wins locking up the #1 playoff seed.
