Shamrocks Extend Their Win Streak To Eight Games

The Victoria Shamrocks would extend their win streak to eight games on Sunday evening with a 10-6 win over the Maple Ridge Burrards in WLA action.

The Shamrocks remain perfect on the season with an 8-0 record with the New Westminster Salmonbellies chasing them on 5-3. Maple Ridge remains in the mix despite the loss with a 3-6 record to keep them tied with the Burnaby Lakers and Langley Thunder with three wins a piece.

Sunday night’s victory, however, didn’t come easy for the Shamrocks. They found themselves down a pair of goals in the first period and were down a goal early in the second.

Victoria’s one-two punch in goal continues to stand out. Cam Dunkerley got the start and made 32 of 38 saves in the win. Honourable mentions goes to Maple Ridge’s Brandon Humphrey. He’s stopped 38 of 48 shots in the loss.

Momentum Swings In The First

Marshal King got the party started 4:55 into the first period on the power play, but that didn’t deter the Burrards.

Victoria battled back to tie the game. Clarke Petterson scored on the power play 31 seconds after Klarich’s goal. Mathieu Gautier scored a power play marker with 2:46 on the clock to tie the game 3-3 after one.

Shamrocks Pull Away In the Second

The Shamrocks took the lead 1:11 into the second period off a goal from Cole Pickup. However, the Burrards relied with a two-goal run.

Klarich scored 26 seconds later to tie the game up. Rhys Porteous then scored at 3:06 to give the Burrards a 5-4 lead.

As the old saying goes, great teams find a way to win. Tom Vaesen scored at 8:49 to start a five-goal run for the Shamrocks between the second and third periods.

Dallas Wade would put the Shamrocks ahead 6-5 at the 13:48 mark. Nick Preston rounded out the scoring at 15:58 when Liam Phillips found him open down the middle to make it 7-5 at the end of the second.
