Many were waiting for the blockbuster deal to drop today. Rumors were swirling for teams all day many of which related to the Philadelphia 76ers. Would Daryl Morey pull the trigger on a deal to acquire Philly Native Kyle Lowry? Not this deal.
Instead, Daryl Morey makes the smarter move by not shaking up the current Sixers chemistry or sacrificing the future. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired combo guard George Hill (Thunder) and small forward Ignas Brazdeikis (Knicks) in a 3 way trade. They sent center Tony Bradley and 2 second round picks (2025, 2026) to the Thunder. Also, trading center Vincent Poirier and a 2021 second round pick to the Knicks. The Knicks sent guard Austin Rivers to the Thunder and are expected to waive Vincent Poirier to complete the deal.

Welcome George Hill
The Sixers get their much needed combo guard that plays both ends of the floor. George Hill can do just about everything so its a great fit and gives the Sixers options down the stretch. Or in the words of former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie, “Optionality”.
George can the run the point providing for a much needed ball handler. He can also catch and shoot, especially the three ball. He will turn 35 and was hurt most of this season but just last season lead the NBA in 3PT field goal percentage (46%). George brings it big time on the defensive end complementing to the Sixers identity.
Does he make the Sixers championship contenders? I don’t know that anyone will out score the Brooklyn Nets point for point but maybe you can defend them. Playoff basketball you need defense and the Sixers just got even better.
