SWAT Swept to Open RMLL Junior A Season

It’s was the opening weekend in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League’s Junior A season for the Saskatchewan SWAT and it was a rude awakening as the SWAT were swept is all three games.

With three games in three nights, the SWAT weren’t able to come away with the victory.

Saskatchewan opened the season on Friday night to take on the Calgary Mounties and the SWAT had to shake off the rust.

Calgary jumped out to a 8-0 lead before the SWAT finally got on the board with a three-goal run including goals from Troy Gutowski and Jackson Neufeld.

The Mounties would shut it down from there to take a 14-3 win.

Trying to shake off the loss, the SWAT travelled up to Edmonton to face the Miners on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday night, the Miners cruised to a 17-8 victory and held the momentum into Sunday morning as they picked up a 13-5 win.

With the win, the Miners are undefeated after five games to sit in first place in the standings. The Mounties sit in second at 3-1, while the Okotoks Raiders are 1-4 and Saskatchewan is still looking for its first win.

The SWAT are back in action on July 24 and 25 when they host the Miners at the Kinsmen Arena in Saskatoon. Games times are 9 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, local time.
