Tariq Woolen | Cornerback University of Texas-San Antonio

The Eagles will be looking in the later rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft. They would be looking for players to take but the secondary especially is very urgent to have in this league. Especially with all the top wide receivers in the NFL, they need to bolster the secondary. Tariq Woolen can help the Eagles in the later rounds of the Draft, especially in the cornerback position beside Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox.

Tariq Woolen is 6 ft 4 and 205 pounds from Fort Worth Texas. He was a Red-Shirt-Senior from the University of Texas & San Antonio. Here is what makes it interesting. Woolen, in his first three years in college, was a wide receiver until the 2020 season. He switched from wide receiver to cornerback and has a similar mindset to what we have with our current cornerbacks.

Positives

The positive in his game is that his anticipation is very key especially seen in this year’s NFL Combine with a 4.26 40 Yard Dash and was ranked 4th in this year’s Combine. The willingness to work on the fundamentals of his game in the cornerback position is very extraordinary to have. Woolen can also help his draft stock that the maybe Eagles could get the Cornerback position in a very long time.

Negatives

He needs improvement in man coverage. His techniques are a little bit slim, especially jumping in coverage. Deflecting balls away is the one thing he needs improvement in his game. If he gets the right coaching and can hopefully this could be remedied. Could Darius Slay help him work the problem?

But overall for the Eagles in the later rounds, Woolen is one guy that the Eagles should look at. Tariq could be a steal in the 2nd or 3rd round and especially in the day and age where defense is key. I think Tariq Woolen could be a very good fit for the Eagles and helped them in the secondary and should not ignore come night two of Draft Night.
