Teacher vs. Student Break Even

The Philadelphia Union returned to action after a two-week break. The Union head into action after coming off a huge win against the New York Red Bulls. Winning 4-1. However, the Union has a treacherous schedule in front of them. Starting with the best team in the league. A tall order, if you will. This was a teacher vs. student match.

FC Cincinnati coming off the break with a loss to Orlando City. Now, they head into Subaru Park with a bad taste in their mouth. However, FC Cincinnati will go into battle without superstar Luciano Acosta due to yellow card accumulation. Luciano is a top 5 player in MLS with 13 goals and 11 assists.

The Money Shot

FC Cincinnati brought tons of offensive pressure to the Union. Andre Blake and the Union defense held their own in the defensive zone. The Union offense was struggling to move the ball. Cincinnati had the Union offense well-scouted, causing the Union to turn the ball over. Daniel Gazdag, moving the ball in the FC Cincinnati defensive zone finds himself being defended by three Cincy defenders. He makes a back pass to Jose Martinez and lands a long-distance goal. That is part of the reason why he got the contract extension.

Daniel Gazdag Feeling the Momentum

FC Cincinnati winds up giving Daniel Gazdag plenty of shots. Daniel Gazdag now leads the league with nine goals. He has been lighted with plenty of kicks, bringing tons of pressure. Daniel Gazdag was in the FC Cincinnati house several times, looking to find the back of the net. There was no payoff. Dealing with this FC Cincinnati defense.

The Answer Back

The Union came out of the second half with their foot off the gas pedal. FC Cincinnati again caused the Union to turn the ball over, and this time, it paid dividends as Aaron Boupendza would find the back of the net. This put Cincinnati on the scoreboard. Patrick Noonan, the head coach of FC Cincinnati, has his team now clicking on all cyders.

Brandon Vazquez, between two defenders, finds the back of the net. You can see why FC Cincinnati is the best team in the league. They play tough man-to-man defense, force turnovers, any kick-up, and they’ll make you pay the piper for it. Even without their star player, they could spread the ball on offense. Lucky for the Union, they caught a break because of Luciano Acosta’s offensive firepower. The Union could have had a long day at the office. Patrick Noonan has done an amazing job turning this team around. Within two years, from worst to first.
