Temple Ladies Win Slugfest.

The Temple Ladies win a slugfest with Cinci. The Lady Temple Owls (8-3) made a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Lady Bearcats (4-7) in a two-game set. If you like high-scoring, back-and-forth matches, this was a game for you! The squads combined for 30 goals with Temple nabbing 16. Despite the high score, the defenses were the attraction for the first 5:53.

Finally, Alyssa Adams (5G) staked Cincy to a 1-0 lead. This was followed :27 later by a strike from Julie Rose (1g) pushed it to 2-0. Bridget Whitaker (5G,3a) put the Owls on the board and the goal party was on. A rally from the Bearcats made it 5-1. Thanks to Sam Mlkvy (1g,2a), a second from Adams followed by Monica Borzillo (2g,2a) kicking off her day.

Gabrielle Kirsch (2g) put an end to the rally but,  Peyton Mottice (1g) answered to get it to 6-2. Abigael Ryan (3g) got the first of her three which marked her career-high. Unimpressed, the Bearcats ripped two goals to ruin her party. Courtesy of Gianna Napoletano (2g) and Adams notching her first-half hat trick.

Back and Forth

Suddenly, The Owls found another gear with Kirsch and Whitaker hitting net to close the half. A score of 8-5 leaning the Bearcats way. Meghan Hoffman (3g,4a) jump-started a rally for Temple with Julie Schlickling (1g) and Ryan riding shotgun to close the gap on the deficit to non-existent, 8-8.

The Bearcats roared back with a Napoletano marker that was quickly answered by Meghan Hoffman to keep the tie game in place at 9-9. Taylor Gysin (2g) picked up a short-handed tally to boost Cindy back in front but it took only two and a half minutes for Whitaker to feed her favorite target, Hoffman, and, once again, game knotted.

Borzillo hit net on the advantage before… wait for it…Whitaker matched. Whitaker hit another goal and at 14:12 Temple seized the lead. Adams picked up her 31st and it took MacKenzie Roth (2g)  just :35 to counter. Ryan and Adams exchanged goals to get it to 14-13 with 5:31 to play. Whitaker and Roth extended it to 16-13 and Cincy had one final hurrah with a Gysin goal that closed the curtain on the 16-14 slugfest.

And Another Thing

“I expected today we would have to learn a lot through the game, and that’s probably what I’m most proud of for our team. We got down a bunch of goals and we had to figure out how to stay mentally tough and start to dig our way into all the little possessions.”–Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen
