Temple Women Drop Heart Breaker, 11-10

A game of two halves saw the #18 Temple Lady Owls (5-3) drop an 11-10 decision to the 2-5 Delaware Lady Blue Hens on a beautiful Friday on the campus of Temple University.

After an 8 goal first half, Temple could only hit net twice the rest of the way.

“I think Delaware came after us. They were hungry, and we left the door open. We have to do a better job of executing on all ends of the field. I don’t take this loss lightly in any fashion. We need to work hard and get better at everything it takes to win.” – Head Coach Bonnie Rosen.

Temple started the season at 5-1 but have now dropped their last two.

To the Action

Quinn Nicolai (3g,2a) hit net at 14:02 and 13:17 to give Temple the early lead. MacKenzie Roth (3a) got the assist on the first goal.

Danika Swech (3g) pulled Delaware within a goal with 11:59 to play.

Belle Mastropietro (3g) got the two goal.lead back but, Lizzie Hsu (4g,1a) and Swech closed the opening quarter with a 3-3 deadlock.

Second Quarter

The secomd was dominated by Temple with 5-3 advantage

Maeve Tobin (1g) followed by Riley McGowan (1g,1a) putting home a pretty feed from Nicolai to rebuild the two goal Temple edge

At 10:05, Hsu cut it a 5:4 contest with help from Delaney McDaniel.

Mastropietro,McGowan.(1g,1a,) and Mastropietro getting her hat-trick, got it to 8-4.

Hsu on the advantage with Riley Gillin (1g) adding one at 1:54 to close the half with Delaware trailing, 8-6.

To the Third

Just fifty one seconds in Julie Schlickling (1g) increased the advantage.

Hsu and Delaney McDaniel (1g, 4a) had an answer..

Nicolai and Lizzie Yurchak (1g,1a) took turns to end the third with a 10-9 Temple advantage.

Wind it Out

Tbe Temple offense took the rest of the afternoon off and paid the price

Swech got it even and with 1:39 to play, Danielle Livornese (1g) converted a McDaniel feed to end the comeback,11-10.

Postscript

Shots were 32-27 for Temple. Temple had the edge with 24-21 shots on goal.

Ground Balls went the Delaware way, 18-15 Draw Controls also went to Temple,15-8.

Mercy McCarthy stopped 5 shots allowing 8 goals in her 24:21 for Delaware.

Sophia Foohey spelled her with 9 saves and 2 goals.

Temple also enjoyed two netminders with Annie Carroll making 7 saves and surrendering 8 markers in 39:24.

Taylor Grollman had 2 saves.

Mastropieo recorded her sixth hat trick in seven games.Ahe had a game high 6 draw controls and 4 ground balls.
