The 2021 NCAA Lacrosse season kicked off on Saturday with the Denver Pioneers greeting Utah to Peter Barton Stadium. Despite a sluggish start, Denver persevered to sneak out a 9-8 victory.
An unusually slow start saw Utah get on the board off a Jordan Hyde (2 goals) snipe. This would stand as the only first-quarter tally.
Denver would finally get on the board at 12:30 of the second on a pretty goal courtesy of Ethan Walker (3 goals, 1 apple). Hyde and Sammy Cabere (1g) answered and the half would close with Utah in front, 3-1.

Denver put it together in the second half and stormed to 9-6 lead led by Yale transfer, Jack Hanna (2g,1a).
Credit to Utah. They came out and played with a lot of heart. We knew they were going to, but they did a great job today. Their goalie was fabulous. I’m proud of our guys for having that good run we had, down 3-1 to up 9-6. We’ve got to get better in a matter of four days, that’s for sure.” – Head Coach Bill Tierney
Utah kept battling and got it to a one-goal game at 9-8 but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Dis and Dat
Utah’s Cole Brams went an impressive 12 of 20 from the “x” . Zack Johns turned aside 16 shots in defeat.
