The Chiefs Put Together Another Impressive Win

The Six Nations Chiefs (2-0) traveled east to visit the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (2-1) in Major Series Lacrosse action Wednesday night at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex in Whitby, Ontario.

Austin Shanks (7g,6a)  Tanner Cook (3g,3a) and Brady Kearnan (2g,2a) have led the way for Brooklin.  Austin Staats (7g,2a)  Randy Staats (2g,3a) and Shayne Jackson (2g,3a) have led the way for Six Nations.

The goaltending match-up had Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs facing Zach Higgins in net for Brooklin.

Although the Brooklin squad got out to an early lead, the Six Nations Chiefs would come back with big second and third periods to get the 13-8 win.

Travis Longboat (3g,0a) led the way for the Chiefs, with Shayne Jackson (2g,5a), Austin Staats (2g,3a) and Randy Staats (2g,2a).  Austin Shanks (2g,4a), Tanner Cook (2g,2a), and Connor Kearnan (2g,2a) were the offensive powers for Brooklin.

To The Game:

Connor Kearnan got Brooklin on the board converting a Curtis Knight pass at 2:27, followed by Austin Shanks firing a laser past Warren Hill on the power-play off a Kearnan feed at 5:24.

The Chiefs came back when Travis Longboat scored from the outside off a Shayne Jackson pass at 6:26, followed by Austin Staats scoring on the power-play finishing a Brendan Bomberry pass at 14:05.

Jackson gave the Chiefs their first lead of the game at 15:39, but Brooklin stormed back with two goals to end the period.  Brady Kearnan converted a Graydon Hogg pass in transition at 19:01, followed by Curtis Knight pn the power-play just 0:30 seconds later.

After one period, Brooklin 4 Six Nations 3.

Second Period:

The Chiefs got on a roll early.  Larson Sundown scored off an Austin Staats pass at 0:58 seconds to tie the game.  Travis Longboat scored his second of the game on the power-play at 4:09, followed by Shayne Jackson converting a Lyle Thompson pass 0:43 seconds later.

Tanner Cook got Brooklin within one goal on the power-play off a Curtis Knight feed from in close at 11:15, but was answered by Dhane Smith off a Nonkon Thompson pass at 13:57.  Tanner Cook then got his second of the period with a blast off an Austin Shanks feed at 17:48.

After two periods, Six Nations 7 Brooklin 6.

Third Period:

Six Nations took control of the game in this period.  Randy Staats scored back to back to increase the Chiefs lead to three at 2:29.

Connor Kearnan got one back but was answered by Bryan Cole followed by an unassisted tally from Austin Staats at 9:04.

Austin Shanks scored his second of the game on the power-play off a Curtis Knight pass at 10:24, but goals from Travis Longboat and Lyle Thompson sealed the deal for the Chiefs.

Final score, Six Nations 13 Brooklin 8.

Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 56-44.

In the year 2020, Mr. Groob was made the media person for the Arena Lacrosse League, voted onto the board of directors of the Brampton Excelsiors Lacrosse Club, as well as being made administrator of the Lacrosse page “Global Lacrosse” with a membership of 9000 members in over 90 Countries. Gary was also made an administrator of Lacrosse History Past Present and Future in 2022.

Mr. Groob co-hosts a weekly Lacrosse show on Spanglish Sports World, and ZingoTV channel 250, as well as writes a weekly lacrosse column for La Portada Canada News (both in print, and online).

Gary also hosts a Lacrosse talk show and podcast for The Edge of Philly Sports Network, seen live Sunday nights at 9pm (ET), and archived on the Edge of Philly YouTube page, as well as Spotify.

Mr. Groob’s other sports interests include Hockey, Football, Boxing, Wrestling, and Baseball, competing competitively in Boxing and Wrestling for many years.
