The Flyers Showing a Lot of Heart at Home

The Philadelphia Flyers are keeping the good times rolling in South Philly as they go off the chains. Flyers before heading into tonight’s game, beating Vancouver Canucks 2-0. Carter Hart played extremely well at home so far. Having a shutout to open up the Flyer’s home opener. Other than last Saturday, the Flyers lost 5-2 to the Ottawa Senators. The Flyers have returned home and taken care of the business. The young Flyers team is showing a lot of heart in the early stages of this season.

Early Impressions

In the last 3-4 games, Carter Hart has only allowed three goals between the pipes. Edmonton Oilers were looking to keep their momentum going as they beat the Nashville Predators 6-1. Leon Draisaital was a big X-factor in that game, having 2 goals and 2 assists. Carter Hart and the Flyer’s defense made Leon Draistail a nonissue in this game. Carter Hart stopped 22 out of 23 shots. So far at home, Carter Hart stopped 48 out of 49 goals. To me, Carter Hart looks laser-focused on the task at hand.

Tippett, Atkinson Connection is Really Good

Through the course of the game, Owen Tippett and Cam Atkinson show they can be a dangerous pairing when on the same line. Owen Tippett would find Cam Atkinson wide open on two different occasions. The first one. Tippett makes a nice pass to Atkinson with a quick release and makes a backhand goal.

On the second goal, Owen Tippet would find Cam Atkinson on the other side of the ice in front of two defensemen, and Cam would find himself on a breakaway. Cam placed a goal on Oilers’ goaltender Jack Campbell. It seems like there’s good chemistry between Owen Tippet and Cam Atkinson. Owen Tippet, with the vision on the ice, and Cam Atkinson, with his goal-scoring capability, could be a huge plus down the road.

A New Young Core That Knows How to Score

The Flyers’ young core got things going to set the tone of the game. Bobby Brink is looking to make an impact. Joel Farabee and Bobby Brink skated parallel coming down the ice, passing the puck to one other in a two-on-one situation. Joel Farabee would find the back of the net. It seems that John Tortorella (Flyers head coach) has been working on some things with the paring of the lines and making adjustments.

If this young core can go and click as they did tonight, they’re going to cause a lot of pressure on the opposition. This was an all-around solid game from the Flyers. The Flyers’ offense did a great job passing the puck and shooting the puck at the right time. The Flyers defense was outstanding. I get it; the Flyer’s young core is going to have its growing pains in the future; however, you gotta be happy with what you saw this far at home.
