The Kodiaks Get Revenge Over Excelsiors With Come From Behind Win

The Brampton Excelsiors (2-7) visited the Cobourg Community Centre to face the Kodiaks (2-6) in Sunday night Major Series Lacrosse action.

This was a rematch from Thursday where Brampton was able to hold on for the 10-9 victory.  Both teams have had their struggles this year and were hoping this game would help get them back on track.

The goaltending match-up had Craig Wende in net for the Excelsiors against Laine Hruska in net for Cobourg.

While Brampton got off to a good start, patience and perseverance would be the order of the day for Cobourg.  Scoring eight times to Brampton’s one in the latter two periods, Cobourg took command of the game.  Aaron Woods (2g,1a) and David Anderson (2g,0a) led the way for rhe Kodiaks en route to their 9-5 victory.

To The Game:

The Excelsiors got off to a fast start with Pent Eistrat scoring on the power-play off a James Whiteford pass at 5:11, followed by Whiteford himself scoring on the power-play as well, finishing off a Pent Eistrat feed at 8:21.  Henry Follows continued the Brampton scoring, fininshing a Pent Eistrat pass at 10:46, followed by Eistrat himself scoring off a James Whiteford feed at 14:12. 

Carson Moyer got the Kodiaks on the board when he converted Tyler Hendryks feed at 15:00. 

After one period, Brampton 4 Cobourg 1.
The Excelsiors outshot the Kodiaks 23-13.

Second Period:

David Anderson opened the second period scoring for Cobourg on the power-play converting a Tyler Hendryks feed at 6:24, followed by Aaron Woods converting a Marshall Powless pass at 8:26.  Tanner Buck tied the game off a Cam Simpson pass at 11:10, followed by Curtis Romancych in transition giving Cobourg their first lead of the night at 11:18.

James Whiteford tied the game for Brampton when he finished off a Matt Perreira pass at 12:14. 

After two periods, Brampton 5 Cobourg 5.
Shots on goal were 23-15 in favor of the Kodiaks.

Third Period:

Aaron Woods opened the third period scoring for Cobourg converting a Tyler Hendryks pass at just 0:20 seconds, followed by George Downey at 7:52 to open a two goal lead.  Emerson Clark added to the Kodiaks lead converting a Curtis Romancych in transition at 13:33.  David Anderson scored his second of the night for the Kodiaks shorthanded at 16:18.

Final score, Cobourg 9 Brampton 5.
Shots on goal were 17-8 on favor of the Kodiaks.

Gary Groob has been involved with Lacrosse for the majority of his life, whether playing, coaching, or covering the sport for the media.

An avid fan, with a real drive about helping to “grow the game”, Gary became part of podcasts about the game in 2010. Through the podcasts, Mr. Groob was given an opportunity to write about lacrosse, and the rest as they say, is history.

Through many miles (flying and driving) Gary has made inroads with the National Lacrosse League, Major Series Lacrosse League, the Ontario Lacrosse Association, as well as the Arena Lacrosse League, covering the leagues, their teams, and players, working for, and in concert with all of them.

In the year 2020, Mr. Groob was made the media person for the Arena Lacrosse League, voted onto the board of directors of the Brampton Excelsiors Lacrosse Club, as well as being made administrator of the Lacrosse page “Global Lacrosse” with a membership of 9000 members in over 90 Countries. Gary was also made an administrator of Lacrosse History Past Present and Future in 2022.

Mr. Groob co-hosts a weekly Lacrosse show on Spanglish Sports World, and ZingoTV channel 250, as well as writes a weekly lacrosse column for La Portada Canada News (both in print, and online).

Gary also hosts a Lacrosse talk show and podcast for The Edge of Philly Sports Network, seen live Sunday nights at 9pm (ET), and archived on the Edge of Philly YouTube page, as well as Spotify.

Mr. Groob’s other sports interests include Hockey, Football, Boxing, Wrestling, and Baseball, competing competitively in Boxing and Wrestling for many years.
