The Philadelphia Union Welcome the Chicago Fire

The Philadelphia Union welcome the Chicago Fire to Subaru Park under the lights Saturday night. Philadelphia Union (1-0-1 | 7th in Eastern Conference) vs Chicago Fire FC (0-1-0 |10th in Eastern Conference). Chicago started their season with a 1-1 draw against NYCFC.

Union New York Bus Trip

The Men in Red had their backs against the wall going into the last 15 minutes of the game down 1-0 but Fabian Herbers came to save the day and steal a point in their first contest of the year after putting a deflected shot past Luis Barraza in the 75th minute to give the Fire a 1-1 draw. Chicago finished 27th in goals scored with only 39 total last season. They will face a tough test Saturday night versus Philadelphia’s stellar back line to go along with 3x goalkeeper of the year Andre Blake who only allowed a total of 26 goals against in 2022.

Union vs Fire

After struggling vs Inter Miami last week and suffering the first loss of the season in a 2-0 defeat. Philadelphia looks to rebound in game 3 and get back in the win column. Philly and Chicago split the season series last year with each team winning on their home fields. The Union handed Chicago the most recent loss in a 4-1 demolition at Subaru Park last August. With goals from Gazdag, Elliott, Carranza and now New York Red Bull Cory Burke.

Philly will see a tough defensive matchup when they face off against a Chicago team that had 12 clean sheets and conceded only 48 goals in 2022. It will be important for the Union to get off to a good start this game and not allow Chicago’s defense to settle in. To start the year the Union hashad 2 very forgettable first halves in each of their first 2 matches. The Boys in Blue look to extend their 24 game home unbeaten streak this coming weekend.

Player to Watch

Daniel Gazdag. The 27 year old Hungarian gashed the Columbus Crew’s defense creating chance after chance for his teammates, controlling the offensive midfield and also adding 2 goals from the penalty spot. After struggling last game look for Gazdag to be a key contributor and get back to his week 1 form and possibly add another DOOP…..or two!
