On Friday, Kansas City starter Jordan Lyle would be opposed by Aaron Nola. With the Royals up to 2-0, Something strange occurred at Citizens Bank Park. The Phils would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Rojas scored Marsh and Stott in a double to left field. Kansas City would retake the lead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four runs. The Phillies would get one run back in the bottom of the sixth via Trea Turner’s single scoring Bryston Stott. Blanca would have a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth, scoring Taylor to give the Royals a 7 to 5 lead, and that’s how the game would end. Phillies dropped the first game against the Royals. Not a good start against a sub-40-win team.
Game 2 Ties the Series
Saturday, Alex Marsh started for the Royals vs. Christopher Sanchez for the Phillies. Bryce Harper singled, doubled, and homered, Trea Turner doubled, homered, and drove in four runs, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-6 on Saturday night.
Alec Bohm also went deep for defending NL champion Philadelphia, which entered holding the second wild-card spot. Freddy Fermin homered twice for the Royals, who had won seven consecutive games. Sunday The pitching match-up in this one was Zack Greinke vs TAIJUAN WALKER. Top 1st, Massey singled to center, Garcia scored, Perez to second. 1-0 KC. Beaty singled to right, Perez scored, Fermin to second, and Massey to third, 2-0 Kansas City. Waters hit a sacrifice fly to right, Massey scored, Fermin to third 3-0 KC. Bottom of the 1st Stott homered to left center (356 feet), Bohm scored and Harper scored. Game tied at 3
On to the second. Melendez homered to left center (387 feet), 4-3 Royals. Schwarber homered to center (421 feet), Stubbs scored 5-4 Philly. In the bottom of the 5th, Castellanos homered to left center (429 feet), and Harper scored. 7-4 Phillies. Bryce Harper hit a sacrifice fly to center field, and Kyle Schwarber scored. The Phillies add to the lead making it 8-4 Phillies, Top 9th Jeff Hoffman comes in to close out the game. The Phillies take 2 of 3 from the Royals. The Washington Nationals come to Citizens Bank Park next.
