The Arena Lacrosse League (ALL) showcased three games (one canceled due to weather) this past weekend, showcasing teams battling for the top spot in the league.
Saturday, January 18th
Children’s Arena in Oshawa, Ontario
Game One:
Peterborough Timbermen (2-2) vs. Whitby Steelhawks (4-0) in a battle of two very polished teams. A back and forth battle that lived up to the hype, in this penalty-filled game, with Whitby leaving with the 16-13 win.
The big difference in the game was special teams. Whitby had five powerplay goals with three shorthanded goals, while Peterborough had three powerplay goals and two shorthanded goals.
Going into the fourth quarter, the game was tied at ten, but with five of the next six goals, the Steelhawks broke the game open on way to the 16-13 victory.
Liam Osbourne (4g,2a), Cam Milligan (3g,5a), and Dylan Hutchison (2g,4a) led the way for the Steelhawks, while Aaron Woods (5g,3a), and Skyylar Thomas (2g,3a) were top producers for Peterborough with Joe Hall (1g,5a) as the setup man.

Game Three:
Toronto Monarchs (2-3) vs. Paris RiverWolves (4-1) in the early game. Paris trailed for only 0:04 seconds in this game, en route to an 11-7 victory over the Monarchs.
The first half was for the most part evenly played, tied midway through the second, with the RiverWolves heading to the half up 6-4. Paris came out with a strong third quarter, outscoring Toronto 5-1 to take a commanding lead into the fourth. The Monarchs mounted a small comeback scoring two goals early in the fourth, but Nolan Clayton (Paris goalie) and the RiverWolves defense shut the door for the victory.
Josh Medeiros (4g,1a), Kyle Dawson (3g,1a), and Dan Keane (2g,1a) led the way for the RiverWolves, while Todd Kozak (2g,1a), Tanner Buck (1g,2a), and John Vezina (1g,1a) led the Monarchs offense.
Game Four:
St. Catharines Shockwave (2-3) vs. Six Nations Snipers (0-5) in the late game. In a wild, back and forth affair, the St. Catharines Shockwave held on for a 16-14 victory.
The Shockwave looked like they might run away with this game, getting four of the first five goals, but a resilient Snipers team kept fighting, making it a 9-7 game at the half.
The second half again had the Shockwave get out to a big lead, scoring three of the next four goals to start the third quarter. Six Nations kept clawing and scratching bringing the game to a 15-13 deficit with still eight minutes left. Both goalies stood tall, only yielding one more each, for a final score of 16-14.
The Shockwave attack was led by Layne Smith with six goals, and Gates Abrams with four goals, while the Snipers were led Jordan Goddard with three goals, and Vern Hill, Clay Arnold, and Brent Longboat with two each.
