Unfortunately, It Isn’t Gonna Happen

Unfortunately, it isn’t gonna happen. I wanna start by saying this article will not be well received. It will not be agreed upon by most. I expect to get a bunch of hate for it. All that aside, it may very well be the truth and something everyone needs to get ready for.

Here we go.

The Eagles WILL NOT draft a wide receiver in the first round, nor the second, or third rounds of this year’s draft.

The Eagles currently have 7 wideouts under contract for 2021. 3 of which they drafted just last year, Jalen Reagor, John Hightower, and Quez Watkins. One that opted out for the 2020 season in Marquise Goodwin. Last season’s breakout candidate, Travis Fulgham. And who could forget good ol’ JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Greg Ward Jr?

Howie, in my opinion, has two options that he could go with 1.) cut Goodwin for up to $5 million in cap savings. The ideal choice. 2.) Cut Greg Ward Jr. Who deserves a spot. Don’t care what anyone says. Both options may also be in the cards of course though.

Marquise Goodwin: Stay or Go

Goodwin could always be restructured to save some money as well. However, if Goodwin’s salary is an issue. A release would be the smartest way to go. No harm, no foul.

Also, have to take into consideration, DeVonta Smith or Ja’Marr Chase in the top ten would warrant a contract larger than all receivers we currently have on staff combined. Don’t quote me on that. I’m sure it’s close.

The bottom line is whether it is 3 receivers drafted last year, a trade for an opt-out for a season, or falling ass backwards into talent like Fulgham. Howie needs to be the smartest in the room and he will never admit defeat especially this quickly on any of his most recent acquisitions.

Everyone already expects Howie to ‘fumble’ yet another draft. It’s just a suggestion but get yourself ready for the Eagles to pass on Smith and Chase if they fall to at least #6.
