In week 2 of the MLS season ,the Philadelphia Union suffers their first loss of the season to Inter Miami. Once again, in the first half the Union came out sluggish and couldn’t get a play together for a chance at goal. Miami played fast and took advantage of the speed that we are lacking in the middle of the field. The Union fall 2-0.

To the Action…sort of
Martinez could not find his footing. He couldn’t seem to get away from turning the ball over on the Union side of the pitch. This led to the middle playing back almost the whole game and caused Wagner and Mbaizo to stay back. The back line stood its ground with good games by all four Mbazio, Elliott, Glesnes, and Wagner. However, that did not stop Miami from finding a way to capitalize when it counted. Netting two Golazos from outside the box.
The Union did have a couple of clear chances at goal from Gazdag and Carranza but fell short from putting the ball in the back of the net.
Miami did their job in frustrating the Union. It prevented Philadelphia from playing their usual Curtin-style play which has been successful thus far in the last couple of years. By making the defensive mid to play back a bit more forced Gazdag to come back. It limited his chances to create plays for the attack.

With a short turnaround between games, the Union will be heading to El Salvador taking us to the Tuesday Match against Alianza. We will be looking for Curtin to show off some depth in these games. This will be important since he Union will play 6 matches in the month of March. We all know that everyone wants to take down last year’s eastern conference champions. This loss is very much a test in character. The Union need to brush this off and get back to giving the fans what we all like to hear DOOP.
