The upstart Slovaks used the second period in which they dominated the offensive play to build a 4-2 lead heading into the third period. The American’s play leveled out in the final frame they were unable to mount a comeback falling 6-3.

The first period was a tentative played period by the Americans. They found themselves down 1-0 but railed to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Slovaks scored three goals in a span of 3:19 in the second period to flip the script in the game and take a 4-2 lead. The United States could not complete the comeback, failing to cut the lead down from multiple goals.
Slovakia got goals from six different skaters and received a 33-save effort from Adam Gajan in the net. Tyler Boucher led the USA offense with two goals, while Kaidan Mbereko struggled in his 2023 debut, making 20 saves on 25 shots.
It was another average effort from the USA, who beat Latvia after a slow start. The team sits in the middle of the pack in Group B. The USA has a quick turnaround with a date against Switzerland on Thursday.
