Now that the debacle that was the 2021 season has come and gone, what now of the Phillies? Who goes, who stays? Pitching-wise, Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez, and Hector Neris should be locks to return to the Philadelphia Phillies.
WHO STAYS, WHO GOES?
We can sit and chat about trade this guy. The downside, most GMs do not see value in what you think is a tradeable commodity.
Aaron Nola may be palatable to us as fans but what is his contract status?
TO THE REST
We can start with Bryce Harper. He isn’t going anywhere. So, centerfield, are we comfortable with Odubel Herrera? I am.
Andrew McCutchen, a year older but, was productive.
To the infield. Rhys Hoskins, good numbers but often injured. This lessens his trade value. Jean Segura is an offensive liability and also a year older. Didi Gregorius, also getting long in the tooth but, serviceable. Alec Bohm, is he the answer at third base? Strikeouts have been an issue as well as fielding issues. Will he be shopped around? And what would be the return?
The bench…as for me, I like the bench. Bamboo Brad Miller paid dividends. Freddie Galvis has versatility. This brings me to the Manager, Joe Girardi. He was hired by Matt Klentak… not Dave Dombrowski. Will Dombrowski bring in someone new? Time, as they say, shall tell. What Now for the Phillies?
