Why so much hate for Jalen Hurts? This is something that I just can’t wrap my head around. What good comes out of beating this kid down?
Let’s really take a look back. Jalen gets drafted at #53 of the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. Not his fault. His dream of the NFL has come true. No OTA’s, Limited training camp, no preseason. Also, not his fault. Blame the GLOBAL pandemic.
Wentz continues to play like dog dung. Gets benched. Hurts finally gets his shot to take a full series of snaps on the field, which inevitably turns into the rest of the second half against the Packers. Coach’s decision. Not Jalen’s.
Then, Woohoo, Hurts gets told each week for the rest of the season he was the starter after taking zero to limited snaps with the first team during each week’s practice the first 13 weeks of the season.

Hurts Makes His First Start
Hurts then goes on to play behind a makeshift offensive line. An offensive line that had a different combo of players for what felt like every single week of the season. He goes on to finish with a 1-3 record. However, he tallied 1,061 yards passing with 6 Touchdowns and 354 rushing yards with 3 Touchdowns. Sure, he had his numbers of Interceptions and fumbles. He was a rookie. During rookie things. For a team that couldn’t seem to get anything right. With a head coach that isn’t even here anymore.
Hurts brought something to the Eagles offense we were screaming for all season. Life. An Identity. Excitement. If you didn’t get that out of the last four weeks of Eagles 2020/21 football season. What exactly were you looking for?
All in all, this team is in a rebuild, retool at best. And with the #6 overall pick in the 2021 draft, the Eagles are damned if they do and damned if they don’t draft a QB in the first round. That is just the way it is. In the best-case scenario, Jalen plays great. Everyone is happy again. Worst case, the Eagles have another high draft pick AND could (should) have the Colts first-round draft pick for the 2022 draft. Not to mention, it is a better quarterback draft class compared to this year’s.
The sky is not falling. The expectation is already low. We can only get better from here. So once again, why so much hate for Jalen Hurts?
