Win Over Adanacs Keeps Shamrocks in Final WLA Playoff Spot

With a 10-7 over the Coquitlam Adanacs on Saturday night, the Victoria Shamrocks took another step toward solidifying the final playoff spot in the WLA.

Victoria sits in fourth place with a record of 7-6-1 with four games left to play in the regular season. The Burnaby Lakers are chasing them at 4-9 with a game in hand.

For Coquitlam, they were handed their fifth straight loss as their record drops to 1-13.

Cam Dunkerley got the nod in goal over Pete Dubenski for Victoria. He stopped 39 of 46 shots in the victory.

Victoria Dominates The First Period

Coquitlam was playing catch-up right from the start of the game as Victoria jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

Chris Wardle opened the scoring 28 seconds into the first period. Tom Vaesen would make it 2-0 with an unassisted goal 2:40 later.

Casey Wilson and Cory Conway scored to round out the four-goal run.

Luke Jaber put Coquitlam on the board with 2:12 left in the first. However, Bennett Smith rounded out the scoring to make it 5-1 for the Shamrocks after one.

Shamrocks Extend Their Lead

One of the bright spots for Coquitlam this season, Clark Walter found the back of the net on the power play 7:12 into the second period to get the Adanacs back within three goals.

Casey Wilson replied 1:16 later shorthanded and added another marker with eight minutes left in the period to give Victoria a 7-2 advantage.

John Hofseth scored Coquitlam’s third goal at 12:32. Following a Brett Draper cross-checking call, Cole Pickup scored with 4:48 left to make it 8-3 for the Shamrocks heading into the third period.

Adanacs’ Comeback Falls Short

Adam Noakes got Coquitlam on the board first in the third period as the Adanacs looked to make a comeback.

Bennett Smith replied right back on the power play 3:53 into the period.

Walter continued his hot streak scoring a pair of goals within 1:37 of each other to get Coquitlam within three, 9-6.

Pickup would put the game out of reach with 3:32 left to play. Matthew Delmonico rounded out the scoring for the Adanacs to make the final 10-7 and gets Victoria another step closer to securing a WLA playoff spot.
