Interview With Justine Valencia the “Founding Father” of XBW

Can you tell me more about the inspiration behind starting X-brand? What led you to pursue this idea?
“I have been a die-hard wrestling fan for all my life. I have been going to pro wrestling shows since 1997. Growing up in South Philadelphia, I would attend many indie shows in the early 2000’s that took place at the old Viking Hall ECW arena. I loved the atmosphere every time I walked into that building. It was different. You knew right away that this was not geared towards the mainstream wrestling audience. I think that aura has slowly faded away. I wanted to bring that tone back to wrestling. I do not want to be that indie promoter who uses the same local talent show after show. We want to focus on the guys with potential who are being held back for one reason or another. We want to focus more on character development with little skits. In my leisure time, I like to watch shows and write down everything I do not like, making sure I do not put that out there on my show. I want people to leave X Brand fans satisfied and wanting more. As far as the name, we have been using the logo for quite some time for my ValenciaSociety YouTube channel, where we post interviews with Delaware Mike and other projects from the past. We wanted to have a name that had an impact. What better name than X Brand Wrestling? Think about it. X is such a mysterious letter. Something unknown. In mathematics, it is used as a variable for an unknown quantity. X is cancellation and multiplication; it is nothing and everything. We are X Brand Wrestling. We are something different. Awaken your mind.”
Planning and putting on a show involves a lot of work that many people are not aware of. Can you explain the process?
“When it comes to putting on shows I hate to give feedback as this is my second show and I am still as green as baby shit when it comes to putting together shows. I feel like promoters dont get enough credit for all the work they put into putting together a show. Delaware Mike and I have interviewed so many successful independent wrestling promoters, and from each interviewee I try and take something new and put it into my practice. I have been flyering everywhere I go. Im Trying to take different approaches when promoting like putting up flyers in Spanish for Spanish speaking areas. Having Published Models like our special guest ring announcer Pinky promote our product. I try and stay in my lane and be humble and learn from everyone”

Special Guest Host

This is a special event for the Steel Steps crew, including myself, who you can catch live every Friday at 10 pm on this site. Justine and X Brand Wrestling have asked the Steel Steps crew to be the official host of the event on Friday night. Our task is to get the crowd ready for the amazing night ahead. This is an incredible honor that we at EOP do not take lightly. We are eagerly looking forward to Friday night.
